Gentlemen: 2004 found the BI MEN NETWORK very much on our own without support from the AIB or any other organization for the first time in our young life of six years. Needless to say making it on our own has been very difficult and trying but we HAVE survived and the coming years look promising.

Our initial reaction with over 1/4 million members and excellent demographics, was to seek other sponsors especially amongst mainstream Fortune 500 companies who were already supporting gay/lesbian concerns. All total in the first half of 2004, we spent over $10,000 on outside consultants and this study in efforts to get mainstream support. While many fine major companies were cool but courteous, no one would step forward to support us. The fact that it was an election year AND the controversy over "gay" marriages raging did not help at all. Repeatedly, we met misunderstanding that bisexual and BI-curious men are NOT gay men. Even the gay consultants we hired and paid seemed to want to just "clone" BI men into gay men.

In June 2004, it became quite obvious that NO ONE on the OUTSIDE was coming to our rescue so we started our own private, paid email list called BI Men "SPECIAL EDITION."

Sadly 2004 has taught us that while "YOU are not alone!" our motto here at BI MEN NETWORK - we as a group are sadly very much alone. Repeated efforts to seek out mainstream support have proved futile with little to no encouragement. As America seems to be destined to remain polarized for years to come and the "gay marriage" controversy continues to rage on - support from mainstream companies or organizations is doubtful.

The balance of 2004, since June, has been spent trying to make friends with gay males and gay dominated "mainstream" organizations, businesses, and endeavors. SADLY other than the gay men who are our friends and supporters ALL the time, and are also our natural friends and allies, many "mainstream" gay organizations and businesses do NOT yet appear to understand BI guys, nor do they care to do so. All too often they only say that they are BI-friendly in order to get our money and our patronage. A recent trip to Las Vegas to firm up relationships with major gay venues was a disaster. There are NOW very few gay mainstream organizations and businesses that can be heartily recommended to you as genuinely "BI-friendly."

As they say: "GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES" and that it what we must do!
